Bayero University’s commitment to excellence began in 1977, when it became a full-fledged University, from Ahmadu Bello College, established in 1960, to which BUK traces its roots. Much
has changed over the more than 40 years since then, but one thing has remained constant – an understanding of the value of education and its importance in preparing individuals to be useful and productive citizens of this country and the world.
The mission of BUK has three components: teaching, scholarship, and service. The teaching component is to transmit knowledge to students, and develop skills in thinking critically and communicating ideas effectively. The scholarship component is to advance knowledge through distinguished scholarship and research. The service component is to contribute to the betterment of the University, profession, and community at large.
The Bayero University, Kano, has focused on being a research university, with strong commitments to opportunities for discovery-based learning, study-abroad programmes, and professional and continuing research and studies. It seeks to connect advanced research with life-long professional culture, with a view to providing a dynamic culture of academic and intellectual enrichment for both the student, community and the University as a whole.
